23A is a compact urban cafe on Rymarska Street in central Kharkiv. The 86-square-metre space transcends mono-functionality, combining two scenarios—the energetic rhythm of daytime coffee and the relaxed atmosphere of an evening bar. The design focuses on adaptability, a light open environment, and the creation of a "living" urban lounge.

Occupying the ground floor of a historic building adjacent to the Kharkiv Opera and Ballet Theatre, the project is integrated into a rich cultural context. The client aimed to create a comfortable space ready for shifting usage scenarios. The layout provides for 38 seats with the possibility of free-standing furniture arrangement, ensuring an open visual structure and potential for future development.

The core idea is "identity through calm". The space is conceived as an organism that transforms throughout the day. Modularity defines both the layout and the mood: tables, benches, and plants act as adaptive elements, allowing functions to change within minutes. The concept is based on flexibility and a casual atmosphere, where architecture offers freedom rather than pressure.

The interior is structured into several zones: a community table for socialisation, a flexible central area, and a quick-seating zone near the entrance. Modular furniture ensures rapid transformation between coffee mode and evening events. Crucially, the layout maintains clear transit logic and visual connection between all parts of the space, regardless of configuration.

Lighting serves as a functional and adaptive tool for atmospheric shifts. By day, the space is filled with natural insolation, while in the evening, warm artificial light engages to emphasise depth and form a soft rhythm. Light accents are directed to reveal material textures, supporting the smooth transition from daytime transparency to evening intimacy.

The project deliberately eschewed intrusive branding to preserve architectural purity. All elements—from furniture joints to colour transitions—are executed with high precision. Recognition here is formed through simplicity: clean lines, tactile surfaces, and adjustable modules create a cohesive, self-sufficient environment.

The key material accent is metal with a rainbow zinc coating. We fundamentally rejected imitations: this delicate iridescence is the result of working with the material itself. Following numerous experiments with galvanisation, we succeeded in capturing a unique spectral effect on the metal surface. Combined with light surfaces, it forms the space's recognisable, balanced palette.
