FIVE SHEETS is a limited aluminium domino set designed by Volodymyr Ponomarenko and crafted by hand by his father. Made from stacked aluminium plates, the object transforms a familiar game into a heavy, tactile and almost architectural ritual.
The project explores material, weight, precision, memory and the quiet value of shared making. It is not only a set for playing, but a personal collectible design object — something brought out not every day, but for a particular moment: when the table becomes a place for conversation, pause, attention and shared presence.

FIVE SHEETS is a limited aluminium domino set designed by Volodymyr Ponomarenko and crafted by hand by his father. Made from stacked aluminium plates, the object transforms a familiar game into a heavy, tactile and almost architectural ritual.
The project explores material, weight, precision, memory and the quiet value of shared making. The Origin

The project began with a simple idea: to make a domino set from aluminium. At first, it was a personal craft experiment by Volodymyr’s father — a series of early attempts, details and working studies made in the workshop. Later, Volodymyr joined the process as designer and art director, helping turn the experiment into a complete design object.
Together, they tested proportions, the shape of the tiles, the type of case, the way the pieces would be stored and the overall logic of assembly. The aim was not only to create a functional set, but to find a single material language for it — one in which the case, pieces, surfaces, fixings and weight all belong to the same idea.
The process is as important as the finished object. FIVE SHEETS was created through a direct dialogue between designer and maker, between son and father. Volodymyr shaped the design direction, proportions and conceptual unity, while his father translated these ideas into material: cutting, drilling, assembling, testing, adjusting and refining the aluminium parts by hand.
In this way, the object became more than a finished product. It became a record of collaboration — a personal document in which design thinking meets craft.

Згодом до процесу долучився Володимир — як дизайнер і артдиректор, допомагаючи перетворити експеримент на цілісний дизайн-об’єкт.
Разом вони тестували пропорції, форму доміношок, тип кейса, спосіб зберігання елементів і загальну логіку складання. Метою було не лише створити функціональний набір, а знайти для нього єдину матеріальну мову — таку, в якій кейс, доміношки, поверхні, кріплення й вага належать до однієї ідеї.
Процес тут не менш важливий, ніж готовий об’єкт. FIVE SHEETS був створений через прямий діалог між дизайнером і майстром, між сином і батьком. The Object & Material
:
Domino is usually seen as a simple, familiar game. It can be made from plastic, wood, bone, resin or other lighter materials. In FIVE SHEETS, the rules of the game remain unchanged, but the experience is completely different.
Aluminium gives the object a new presence. It makes the set colder, heavier, slower and more deliberate. This is not something casually taken from a shelf. It is placed on the table with care, opened, held, and felt through its weight, temperature, density and sound.
Weight becomes a central part of the experience. It gives the set a sense of permanence and makes each gesture more conscious. Each tile feels less like a casual game piece and more like a small metal component — precise, tactile and almost instrumental.
FIVE SHEETS does not try to redesign domino as a game. Instead, it redesigns the feeling around it: the gesture of opening, the moment of choosing, the sound of metal on the table, the pause before a move, and the presence of the object between people.
The game is simple. The feeling is not.

Construction & Details
:
The case is assembled from stacked aluminium plates. Instead of hiding its construction, the object reveals it. Each layer remains visible, creating a horizontal rhythm along the body of the case.
Small spacers between the aluminium plates create shadow gaps. These dark lines make the construction readable and give the object depth, almost like an architectural section. The case is not perceived as a solid block, but as a layered body — assembled, compressed and fixed together.
The removable top cover opens the set like a small industrial archive. Inside, the domino pieces are stored within a formed aluminium cavity. When closed, the object appears restrained and monolithic; when opened, it reveals its internal structure and ordered system of pieces.
Кейс зібраний із нашарованих алюмінієвих пластин. Замість того щоб приховувати свою конструкцію, об’єкт її відкриває. Кожен шар залишається видимим, створюючи горизонтальний ритм уздовж корпусу кейса.
